OSCARS '82: My Favorite Year
“I HAD ONE LINE!!!…I forgot it…”
CONTENT WARNING: Discussion of alcoholism, shame, abandonment.
This film is both incredibly highly regarded and somehow lost to time, because neither of us knew a single thing about this movie other than some Oscar trivia. But what was originally a Mel Brooks tale of his wild days at Your Show of Shows transforms into a tight, funny, and remarkably poignant movie about the perils of fame and the hard work of redemption. All in a 90 minute farce. It might not be the most memorable film, but it’s certainly an outstanding, underrated comedy with a strong emotional core, and it deserves some more attention. So we’ll give it some love today as Oscars '82 continues this week with My Favorite Year on Macintosh & Maud Haven’t Seen What?!
